The name is derived from the Swedish word återfå, meaning to regain, to recover, to get back.
Aterfa offers tailored bodywork treatments designed to support recovery, mobility, postural ease, and deeper restoration. Each session is shaped around the needs of your body, whether influenced by sport, desk-based work, physical demand, or the pace of modern life.
-
Hi, I’m Jo, Founder and Therapist of Aterfa.
Every treatment at Aterfa is delivered by me personally, with a calm, tailored approach shaped around what your body needs on the day. I work one-to-one with each client, drawing from a range of bodywork techniques to support recovery, ease tension, and create space for deeper restoration.
Whether you are looking for support with mobility, postural strain, physical fatigue, or stress-related tension, my intention is always the same: to offer thoughtful, personalised care that helps you feel more balanced, restored, and reconnected to your body.
-
Getting started is simple. Start with the First Appointment session if it is your first time.
If you are a returning customer, choose the track that feels closest to your needs. Each treatment can be adapted on the day, and a more personalised approach can always be created. If you would prefer guidance before booking, you are welcome to get in touch.
Otherwise, reach out through our contact form for any questions.

Aterfa Kinetic is designed to support active bodies, mobility, recovery, and physical performance.
Aterfa Alignment focuses on postural strain, desk-related tension, and structural ease through the body.
Aterfa Decompress is a more restorative treatment designed to ease stress-related tension and encourage deeper relaxation.
-
Not at all. While Kinetic is well suited to runners, cyclists, tennis players, and active individuals, it is also appropriate for those with physically demanding jobs or anyone needing more focused work around mobility, muscular tension, and recovery.
-
Yes. Although Aterfa offers three core treatment tracks, every session is tailored. If none of the tracks feels like an exact fit, we can adapt the treatment to better reflect what your body needs.
-
Treatments may incorporate a range of approaches, including Swedish massage, Sports massage, soft and deep tissue work, trigger point/neuromuscular therapy, myofascial release, and dynamic assisted stretching. The treatment is always guided by what is most appropriate for your body on the day.
-
In many cases, treatment can be adapted, but it is important to share any relevant injuries, medical conditions, recent surgery, pregnancy, or other health concerns before your appointment. If needed, you may be asked to seek guidance from a medical professional before treatment goes ahead.
-
Not necessarily. Some techniques may feel more intense than others, particularly in areas of deep tension, but treatment should always feel manageable and appropriate for you. Pressure can be adjusted at any time, and communication is encouraged throughout.
-
Treatments are designed to support both physical recovery and mental wellbeing.
On a physical level, they may help relieve muscular tension, ease postural strain, support mobility, and encourage a greater sense of comfort through the body.
Mentally, massage can create space for deep relaxation, help calm the nervous system, reduce feelings of stress and overwhelm, and leave you feeling more grounded, restored, and clear.
-
Please wear whatever feels comfortable and easy to move in. Depending on the areas being treated, you may be asked to remove some outer layers and any watch or jewellery, while keeping your underwear on. Your comfort, privacy, and dignity will always be respected at all times.
-
Your first appointment includes time for consultation, allowing us to understand your lifestyle, any areas of tension or discomfort, movement or postural patterns, and what you would most like support with. This helps shape a treatment approach that feels safe, considered, and specific to you.
-
